- to provide a secure, accepting and supportive shelter for women and their children who have been victims of family violence;
- to build self esteem by encouraging abused women and children, to identify and build on their own resources and to develop problem solving skills;
- to provide information to abused women and children on the cycle of violence and its effects on all family members;
- to provide information on community resources and services;
- to provide advocacy for abused women and children in their efforts to gain access to resources and services by working cooperatively with existing agencies, e.g.. Income Assistance, C.A.S., Community Agencies, etc.;
- to provide outreach services that would meet the ongoing needs of residents and former residents;
- to provide outreach services to women and children in the community who have experienced abusive relationships but do not require the shelter services;
- to collect information and participate in research to better understand the problems of family violence;
- to provide public education on the effects of family violence on the whole community;
- to provide ongoing staff development programs;
- to support and assist other agencies to alleviate the problems experienced by victims of family violence.
